Swimming Lessons, School, Valentines Day, Etc.

Since I last posted, Trey has started taking swimming lessons. Let me first preface this paragraph with the fact that Trey LOVES swimming! He has no fear and can literally swim underwater (for about 15 feet) and (prior to this) has had no instruction. Therefore, when we signed him up for swimming lessons, he was SO EXCITED! He is starting out at level 1 (because this is where everyone starts) and it seems to be very basic--such as: how to get into the pool, going over pool rules, putting your face into the water, etc. Trey would like to speed this process along and get to the fun stuff. However, we (Shane and Kathy) feel that it's ok for him to slow down...learn the basics...and be a safe swimmer. Trey has also started to work on kicks in the water, which is always good for big splashes. Nonetheless, he is having fun and who knows??....maybe we have the next olympic swimmer in the making! :o) (I would have said...maybe we have the next Michael Phelps...however, he has had some bad press lately....so we'll just stick with "olympic swimmer".)

In addition to swimming lessons, we are looking forward to the summer. We are hoping to get Trey involved with baseball or soccer or some type of organized sport where he can get some exercise, meet some other kids, and learn the basic rules of the game. I am currently in the process of researching our options. Also, thinking ahead...we are looking into schools for next year. Trey's current school is an early childhood center where kindergarten is the oldest bunch in the school. Therefore, we need to firm up our plans for his next school (1st grade). We toured a school a couple weeks ago and Trey loved it! It is near my work (again), which is a huge plus...so we are leaning toward this school. However, our church also has a school (K-8) connected to it. We would love to see him go there.... it's just a little more difficult to sort out the logistics of how we could drop off/pick up, etc. Therefore, we have some things to consider regarding 1st grade.

Nonetheless, Trey is doing so well in school. Today is actually the 100th day of school for his class. Therefore, they will be partying and celebrating this big day! Then, tomorrow they will celebrate Valentine's Day, which will be so much fun as well. I am actually going to help with his Valentine Party in his classroom, which will be fun. Trey really enjoyed making valentines for his classmates and it will be so much fun to see him exchanging them.

Shane is really enjoying his new job as well. He really likes the dealership and the people that he works with...so this has been a BIG blessing. My job also is going well. We are in the off-season, so I am able to spend so much more time with Trey...which is wonderful! I missed a lot of time with him in the fall....so this time of the year is really special for us and we are taking advantage of the opportunity to spend time together after school and on the weekends.

Overall, we are doing well. Life is still extremely busy. I am not coaching currently (see above--off-season). However, I have picked up a couple of extra duties at work. I am teaching a class this semester and I am also supervising a student-teacher...so I have had some new challenges...but they have been really enjoyable.

We hope that you are all doing well! Have a GREAT Day!

God's Blessings,
Shane, Kathy, and Trey
